Drug Allergy and Drug Intolerance
Suspected allergic reactions to drugs can have allergic (drug allergy) or pseudo-allergic (drug intolerance) causes. Further reasons are side effects of drugs, reactions of the autonomic nervous system (fear, reactions to injections) or symptoms of the underlying disease (e.g. rashes from infections). In such cases a careful history with an exact description of the circumstances and reactions is important, in addition skin and blood tests are performed. This is followed by an individual consultation with instructions in avoiding the applicable drugs. Alternative drugs are named and an allergy pass is issued.
